Marvelous Mondays: Pattern Mixing

Here’s another Marvelous Monday catch-up post! Last week’s theme was Pattern Mixing, and here’s my take:

P1160208

I mixed a zebra-striped skirt with a floral print top, and I have to say, I think it turned out pretty fabulously!

P1160210

This outfit is cute and chic and perfect for summer, and I have to say, I think I’ll wear it again! I never really thought I was a fan of pattern-mixing, but I think the key for me is to have big, bold patterns, and to avoid clashing colors.

P1160214

The only accessory I wore is this necklace, cute silver glasses on a long chain. I’m trying to step up my accessories game, but this outfit was so busy already, it was unnecessary!

Floral tank: Pure Energy via Target
Zebra print skirt: Caren Sport via Fatshionxchange
Silver glasses necklace: Ebay
Black flip-flops: Old Navy

And if you check back to last week’s posts, you can see the other Marvelous Monday babes trying out pattern mixing!

Marvelous Mondays: Monochromatic

Two weeks ago, the other Marvelous Monday bloggers (links at the bottom) posted their monochromatic outfits. Here’s mine–better late than never!

P1160225

Instead of black and white, they typical monochromatic fashion choice, I decided to interpret this theme a little more broadly and go with a green monochromatic outfit!

P1160230

Everything I’m wearing, even my earrings, is green! I didn’t actually wear this out anywhere; I’m not sure in what climate shorts and a corduroy blazer are a weather-appropriate combo…but I like the look!

P1160222

Outfit details:

Glittery green earrings: Urban Nomad via a local shop
Teal green corduroy blazer: Talbots via Goodwill
Mint green t-shirt: Forever 21+ via Fatshionxchange
Bright green high waisted shorts: New Look Inspire
Olive green sandals: Old Navy

Marvelous Monday: Inspired By Each Other

Marvelous Monday catch-up post #1! I missed this a few weeks ago, so now I’m showing you my outfit for the “Inspired By Each Other” theme. I was assigned to be inspired by the beautiful Lauren from Goodbye, Hollywood. She wears tons of super cute dresses, but I decided to go for a different look, and I think she really rocks the skinny jeans + fab blouse + cute shoes combo. Simple but very effective! Here are a couple of my favorite outfits she’s worn recently:

Amazing, right??? So here’s my take on it:

P1160242

I don’t own many heels (especially as I’m back in the U.S. and my favorite shoes are still in Germany!), so I went with shiny gold flats.

P1160235

I am so in love with this shirt! I just got it today from Target (so glad to be back in a place with a Target!). Tthe print is great, and the pleated back is amazing.

P1160237

Did I manage to convey my inspiration? If I look half as awesome as Lauren, I think I’m doing great!

P1160236 P1160239

Outfit details:

Black skinny jeans: Old Navy
Gold dangly earrings: Lane Bryant
Floral button-up: Xhilaration via Target
Gold metallic flats: Forever 21 via Fatshionxchange

Don’t forget the other Marvelous Monday participants! No new MM outfits from them today (because they posted on time, oops), but you can always check out their other posts 🙂

Marvelous Monday: Old Faithful

Mondays on Fat, Fashionable & Feminist are marvelous again! I’ll also be posting outfits for three of the previous themes (monochromatic, pattern mixing, and inspired by each other) as the week goes on, so stay tuned!

For those not in the know, Marvelous Monday is a weekly blog challenge between myself and four other fabulous fatshion bloggers. Make sure to go check out their outfits today, too! Links are at the bottom of the post.

Our philosophy: Monday is nobody’s favorite day of the week, but maybe its terrible reputation is a little undeserved. We’re on a mission to make ours (and hopefully yours) a little less awful by dressing marvelously!

This week’s theme: Old Faithful. Sian suggested this one to highlight a frequently-worn item that we throw on all the time, with anything, and can always fall back on!

P1160204

For me, it’s this skirt from ASOS Curve. I’ve dressed it up, I’ve dressed it down, and if I had enough money I’d buy two in every color! It works with any top, in any season (with tights if it’s cold and bare legs if it’s warm), for any event. It’s the most versatile piece I own, and I love it!

P1160205

For this outfit, I definitely dressed it down, with a lilac t-shirt and flip flops. I am wearing dangly earrings and bangle bracelets, which makes it a litte sparkly, but still ultra casual, and I think it works! Did I pull it off?

Outfit details:

Lilac pocket v-neck t-shirt: Target
Black skater skirt & belt: ASOS Curve
Purple flip-flops: Old Navy
Bangle bracelets & earrings: Gifted, I have no idea.

Marvelous Monday: Metallics

For those not in the know, Marvelous Monday is a weekly blog challenge between myself and four other fabulous fatshion bloggers. Make sure to go check out their outfits today, too! Links are at the bottom of the post.

Our philosophy: Monday is nobody’s favorite day of the week, but maybe its terrible reputation is a little undeserved. We’re on a mission to make ours (and hopefully yours) a little less awful by dressing marvelously!

This week’s theme: Metallics.

P1150956

I decided to wear these metallic gold jeans (they’re shinier in real life than in the photo), paired with this black blouse. It’s a really strange wrap type blouse, with a shawl collar; a quite unusual item. I haven’t really been sure how to wear it.

P1150960

Should I have tucked it into something? Did I pull it off here? Should I just give up on this particular piece all together?

P1150962

Also wasn’t really sure about the jeans…they’re a bit big for me, particularly in the calf, both length and width wise, so I rolled up the cuffs. I think the contrast is nice as the black matches my blouse, but I’m not entirely sure.

P1150949

What do you all think?

Outfit details:

Black shawl collar blouse: ASOS Curve
Gold jeans: H&M+ via Hanna‘s blog sale
Burgundy wedges: Mossimo via Target

Marvelous Monday (Tuesday Edition): Nature Inspired

I’m sorry this post is a day late; I was dealing with a personal crisis and was unable to post yesterday on time. However, I’m just going to look at it this way: my lateness is extending the marvelousness! You may have also noticed that my posts have been infrequent lately; a full workload as the end of the semester approaches combined with some issues I don’t want to talk about on the internet have me crazy busy. I’ll be back to a more regular posting schedule soon enough, though!

This week’s theme: Nature Inspired.

My natural inspiration may not be immediately clear upon viewing this outfit, but I’ll explain after you look….

P1150948

There are three reasons this is nature-inspired: 1) The lace is a floral pattern.

P1150944

2) The sky is finally blue! That’s a rarity in Bremen. It’s certainly not this particular shade of blue, but it is blue all the same.

P1150940

And finally, 3) When I was out for a walk wearing this sweater last week, I noticed some beautiful flowers (I have no idea what kind, sorry) that were almost the exact same color! So I planned to wear it again for my nature-inspired outfit. I meant to go back and get a picture before making this post, but, alas, it did not happen, so you’ll just have to take my word for it.

Outfit details:

Blue floral lace dress: Forever 21+
Pink short sleeved cropped cardi: Old Navy
Navy bow flats: Shoe Dept Encore
Gold bracelets: Primark
Gold heart necklace: Won from the lovely Suzanne‘s blog giveaway!

Marvelous Monday: Sheer Tops

It’s Marvelous Monday, everybody! This is a weekly blog challenge between myself and four other fabulous fatshion bloggers.

This week’s theme: Sheer tops.

P1150926

I didn’t feel like it would have been appropriate for me to wear my sheer top with just a bra to my Qualitative Research class, so this outfit isn’t as daring as the theme would allow it to be. The top is Old Navy from at least a year ago, and I wear it fairly regularly so I’m a bit surprised it hasn’t been on the blog before. It’s got a banded waist, which I don’t usually like, but I’ve worn it in the summer with denim shorts and I like the contrast of the super casual shorts with a top like this.

P1150930

I also like to wear it tucked in, as you can see here; always the best solution for banded bottom tops. I like this skirt as well, and it goes to show you should try things on; it’s from Dorothy Perkins, and it’s a UK18, while I usually wear a UK22. I got it from fatshionxchange, though, and the seller said it fit up to my waist size, and voila, it works!

P1150927

My hair’s kind of a mess; I usually don’t have time to do anything with it when I have early classes, so whenever you see my hair looking nice, that probably means I came home and fixed it before taking pictures. No time, today, though, I have a meeting in 20 minutes! Same concept for makeup; it’s pretty basic in these photos.

P1150925

The next few weeks are going to be insanely busy for me. Lots of work to do. I’ll be leaving at the end of May, though, for Berlin, then London, then New York, and finally, home to North Carolina from mid-June to mid-August. Can’t wait to be back in the States for a couple of months! I’m already counting the days.

Stuck In A Rut Saturday

In case you haven’t noticed, my fashion is not very creative lately. Here is yet another outfit with black tights and my black skater skirt. Reason? I’m so insanely busy with schoolwork. My posts are infrequent, and they are pictures of boring outfits because I’m stuck in a fashion rut. At least it’s a cute fashion rut?

Marvelous Monday: Inspired by Artwork

It’s Marvelous Monday, everybody! This is a weekly blog challenge between myself and four other fabulous fatshion bloggers.

This week’s theme: Inspired by Artwork

I kind of did this one backwards–when I got dressed, I forgot about Marvelous Monday. But I really liked my outfit, so instead of changing I decided to find artwork to match my outfit. Without further ado, the painting:

Art Prints

And, my outfit:

P1150903

I thought the painting was appropriate inspiration as it includes both the same pattern of red and white stripes and the nautical theme. I really like this sweater, although I am less of a fan of the fact that my legs really haven’t seen much of the sun in many, many months!

P1150901

Yesterday was my 22nd birthday, and what I thought was going to be a quiet day turned into quite a nice small party when some of my friends surprised me with a barbecue and a trip to the beach.

P1150899

I guess I should have some sort of introspective post evaluating the year, but I’ll just say that 21 was a very interesting year. A lot happened. I returned to school, for one, which also for me meant coming back to Germany.

P1150894

I also traveled quite a bit, both within the US and Germany, and to several other countries. I met some new friends, reconnected with some old ones, and drifted apart from some other friends. I guess that last one is inevitable.

P1150902

22 is off to a great start so far, and I’m hoping it continues this way! I know it’ll be a difficult and stressful year with a lot of life changes, but hopefully it’ll all turn out okay.

Funnily enough, I wasn’t the only Marvelous Monday blogger celebrating a birthday yesterday; make sure you wish Cheri a happy birthday, too!

Spring Is In The Air

I promise, someday soon I’ll write again on Fridays….but right now, I’m just too busy and too exhausted, so you get pretty pictures instead!

P1150887 P1150884 P1150890

This is just a casual outfit, going to class and working on a group project and so on. The floral top makes it bright and springy, but other than that, there’s not a whole lot going on.

Floral tank: H&M+ via eBay
Black cropped jacket: Torrid
Plum coated skinnies: H&M+
Boots: Kmart
