Marvelous Monday: Inspired by Artwork

It’s Marvelous Monday, everybody! This is a weekly blog challenge between myself and four other fabulous fatshion bloggers. Make sure to go check out their outfits today, too! Links are at the bottom of the post.

Our philosophy: Monday is nobody’s favorite day of the week, but maybe its terrible reputation is a little undeserved. We’re on a mission to make ours (and hopefully yours) a little less awful by dressing marvelously!

This week’s theme: Inspired by Artwork

I kind of did this one backwards–when I got dressed, I forgot about Marvelous Monday. But I really liked my outfit, so instead of changing I decided to find artwork to match my outfit. Without further ado, the painting:

Art Prints

And, my outfit:

P1150903

I thought the painting was appropriate inspiration as it includes both the same pattern of red and white stripes and the nautical theme. I really like this sweater, although I am less of a fan of the fact that my legs really haven’t seen much of the sun in many, many months!

P1150901

Yesterday was my 22nd birthday, and what I thought was going to be a quiet day turned into quite a nice small party when some of my friends surprised me with a barbecue and a trip to the beach.

P1150899

I guess I should have some sort of introspective post evaluating the year, but I’ll just say that 21 was a very interesting year. A lot happened. I returned to school, for one, which also for me meant coming back to Germany.

P1150894

I also traveled quite a bit, both within the US and Germany, and to several other countries. I met some new friends, reconnected with some old ones, and drifted apart from some other friends. I guess that last one is inevitable.

P1150902

22 is off to a great start so far, and I’m hoping it continues this way! I know it’ll be a difficult and stressful year with a lot of life changes, but hopefully it’ll all turn out okay.

Funnily enough, I wasn’t the only Marvelous Monday blogger celebrating a birthday yesterday; make sure you wish Cheri a happy birthday, too!

Marvelous Monday: Breaking All The Rules

It’s Marvelous Monday, everybody! This is a weekly blog challenge between myself and four other fabulous fatshion bloggers. Make sure to go check out their outfits today, too! Links are at the bottom of the post.

Our philosophy: Monday is nobody’s favorite day of the week, but maybe its terrible reputation is a little undeserved. We’re on a mission to make ours (and hopefully yours) a little less awful by dressing marvelously!

This week’s theme: Breaking A Fashion “Rule”

P1150818

Now you know why Friday’s outfit would have fit, too! It seems that one of the cardinal rules of fat fashion is that we always need to pretend to have an hourglass figure. Emphasize your waist! That’s what it’s all about, apparently. Extraneous belts abound. Not that I’ve never enjoyed a waist-emphasizing outfit myself, but it’s totally unnecessary to always dress that way. And today, I’m not showing off a pretend hourglass figure at all!

P1150807

I also haven’t shaved my legs in over a week (not that you can tell in the photo), and my bra strap is peeking out in a couple of these photos. These are definitely fashion rules I’m breaking. But who cares! I look awesome, and I feel awesome. Especially because I woke up today, and it was magically spring. I’ve been freezing since September, with only a 3-day reprieve in early March, but now, it’s warm and sunny and beautiful outside. The flower are blooming! The birds are singing! What’s not to love? Why get hung up on silly fashion “rules” when all that’s going on outside?

P1150813

I’m also breaking what so many of my fellow fatties see as a rule, by showing off my upper arms. A message, to my fellow fatshionistas: letting the sun and the fresh air touch as much of you as possible is a wonderful feeling! Try it out sometime!

P1150817

For some reason, a lot of people are wearing coats outside. It’s 70 degrees. It’s very unnecessary. I think that Germans like to dress for the worst possible scenario, i.e., it might get cold later, so I’d better wear a coat. Personally, I think it’s nuts. I’m off to enjoy the sunshine now!

Marvelous Monday: Maxi Dress

It’s Marvelous Monday, everybody! This is a weekly blog challenge between myself and four other fabulous fatshion bloggers. Make sure to go check out their outfits today, too! Links are at the bottom of the post.

Our philosophy: Monday is nobody’s favorite day of the week, but maybe its terrible reputation is a little undeserved. We’re on a mission to make ours (and hopefully yours) a little less awful by dressing marvelously!

This week’s theme: Maxi Dress/Skirt

P1150751

Why yes, my hair is a mess, and I am wearing the same shoes that I’ve worn pretty much exclusively for the past couple of weeks. Bad fashion blogger!

P1150740

I clearly enjoyed taking pictures in this long, flowy dress a bit too much, which is why you now have to look at all of these.

P1150757

It’s the first maxi dress or skirt I’ve ever owned, and I have to say, I’m a fan! I like the movement, the way it looks put-together but is even comfier than most of my pajamas. This one is perhaps a little long for me to wear with flats, but it looks nice with the heels. And the boots are a nice way to make it not too summery, I think.

P1150760

I kept the accessories simple: just gold hoop earrings and a skinny gold belt.

P1150756

Of course, even though Spring has finally sprung (sort of), it was a bit chilly to go out without a jacket. So I paired this with my black faux leather jacket, a staple in my wardrobe. I also have a brown one, though–might that have been better? I couldn’t decide. I mean, the dress is black with rust-colored and tan colorblocking, so I guess I could have gone either way.

P1150763

And finally, a close-up so you can see just how messy my hair really is…Also, my nice pink lipstick!

Marvelous Monday: Something You Have Trouble Styling

It’s Marvelous Monday, everybody! This is a weekly blog challenge between myself and four other fabulous fatshion bloggers. Make sure to go check out their outfits today, too! Links are at the bottom of the post.

Our philosophy: Monday is nobody’s favorite day of the week, but maybe its terrible reputation is a little undeserved. We’re on a mission to make ours (and hopefully yours) a little less awful by dressing marvelously!

This week’s theme: Something you have trouble styling.

P1150736

I got this shirt a few weeks ago, and hadn’t worn it until today. I like the spring colors, and the sequin embellishments on the shoulders quite a bit. The textured stripe down the front is also interesting. It’s got a banded bottom, though, which doesn’t really seem to suit me, and I was never sure how to style it. Today, though, I looked at it and thought, “tuck it in! Duh!” And so I did, into my trusty ASOS skater skirt.

P1150731

Does wearing the same shoes all the time make me a bad fashion blogger?? Probably. But I have such a hard time finding cute, comfortable shoes, that when I do, I tend to wear them constantly until they fall apart!

P1150730

So what do you think? How did I do styling this top?

Right now, as you read this, I am in Latvia. I am not wearing this outfit. I did, however, wear this outfit last Thursday afternoon & evening, and schedule it to post today. So it’s only kind of cheating.

Anyway, I love this shirt, and I wear it a lot with jeans for an easy outfit that still looks somewhat stylish. However, I decided to dress it up a little with this skirt, and I think the end result works well. I do really love this skirt, but I always have trouble styling it! How’d I do this time?

Marvelous Monday: Inspired By A Fictional Character

It’s Marvelous Monday, everybody! This is a weekly blog challenge between myself and four other fabulous fatshion bloggers. Make sure to go check out their outfits today, too! Links are at the bottom of the post.

Our philosophy: Monday is nobody’s favorite day of the week, but maybe its terrible reputation is a little undeserved. We’re on a mission to make ours (and hopefully yours) a little less awful by dressing marvelously!

This week’s theme: Outfits inspired by a fictional character

P1150079 P1150076 P1150077 P1150083

This week’s theme is definitely the most abstract one we’ve done so far. It’s not meant to necessarily be a full-on costume, but we decided to take some fashion inspiration from our favorite fictional characters this week, and I chose my ’90s style icon, Claudia Kishi from the Babysitter’s Club series!

Obviously going full-on Claudia would have been a little too crazy for my day to day life, so I decided to just take a few elements of her style. Taking fashion risks, for one, and high-waisted shorts over tights is a totally new look for me. Also, big chunky plastic accessories in not-entirely-matching colors/patterns seemed appropriate! The side ponytail is a ’90s look, too; of course, the real thing would have been much higher and involved a brightly colored scrunchy, but, well, I had to wear this to class!

So, what do you think, BSC fans? Did I pull it off?

Marvelous Monday: Studs/Spikes!

It’s Marvelous Monday, everybody! This is a weekly blog challenge between myself and four other fabulous fatshion bloggers (one new this week!).

This week’s theme: Studs or spikes

P1150037 P1150040

I really like this trend, and for this post I decided to go with a garment I’ve had since before this was so trendy. It’s a simple black skirt, but with an awesome silver studded waistband. I’m also wearing my new oxblood leggings from ASOS Curve — awesome color, unfortunately they seem to be made for someone quite a bit taller than me and bag at the knees and ankles quite a bit. Oh well, they’re stil great, just something to keep in mind if you’re thinking of ordering a pair.

The scarf is also from ASOS, and I’m not sure it comes across well in the photos, but this is an interesting pattern–the floral pattern is not just random, it’s in the shape of crosses. So that’s another trend for you right there, cross prints are very in style right now!

Hopefully you like my take on this theme. Don’t forget to check out the other girls’ blogs today! (Links below.)
